But the 60-year-old Frasier star knows how to have fun and made sure he showed his four youngest children a good time at the happiest place on earth. He was seen riding many of the park’s attractions with four-year-old daughter Faith, waving at his wife Kayte while she stayed on the ground with their son Gabriel (1) and stepchildren Mason (14) and Jude (12) – Kelsey’s two children with his former wife, Playboy model Camille. Looking tanned and fit, he appeared to be enjoying himself as much as his youngest daughter, and even treated himself to a lollipop. You support them every step of the way’ He’s been called the greatest actor alive, a perennial Oscar nominee whose big-screen performances are so riveting and true, audiences have difficulty separating the man from the character. But Tom Hanks has a secret: he fears that Hollywood is going to discover he’s a fraud and his career – however stellar it has been so far – will be finished. “No matter what we’ve done,” says Tom, “there comes a point where you think, ‘How did I get here? When are they going to discover that I am, in fact, a fraud and take everything away from me?’” Despite having won two Academy Awards and appearing in some of the greatest movies of all…4 min

On the morning of February 19, 2012, Savitri woke up an energetic mum-of-three facing a rosy future together with her partner – now husband – Braden. Yet that evening, her life changed forever when she collapsed in the bathroom of their family home at One Tree Point in Northland. Braden initially thought Savitri had fainted. We’re not doing fine art, it’s fun art, but we have experienced artists in studio to show techniques, so at every class you’ll learn something different. What I enjoy seeing is the people who walk out with a smile because they are so proud of themselves for trying something they have never done before. New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|12 September 2016READER LETTER OF THE WEEKDear Wendyl,My husband gets terrible dandruff and it always seems to get worse in winter. Lately, he’s been itching like mad, which is driving him nuts! Do you have anything that could help?TulipHi Tulip,You’re spot on about winter – the cold weather definitely exacerbates dandruff. Tell your husband to start rinsing his hair with apple cider vinegar. Just fill half a cup with water and the other half with apple cider vinegar, then pour all over the scalp. The best technique is to upend the cup quickly onto the top of the head, then move it slowly all around so that the liquid leaks down slowly and covers the whole scalp. Then rinse and shampoo as normal.Do you have a question or a tip for Wendyl? Email her at nzww@bauermedia.co.nzwith…1 min

New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|12 September 2016Dragon’s DENIt may be appropriate that one of my favourite plants has a name that means “female dragon” in Greek. I’m talking about the Dracaena, a favourite of offices and hotel foyers, possibly chosen to make people feel they’re somewhere tropical or, more cynically, because they’re unlikely to die from moderate neglect. Underrated, I’d say.A taste of the tropics!I met my first dracaena when I was writing an article about a contemporary house on Waiheke Island sometime in the early ’90s. As I recall, the house was very cool, but it was the dracaena that stayed in my mind. It was in a shiny black pot and stood not up against a wall as was usual those days, but alongside a sofa right in the middle of the room. I was…3 min
New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|12 September 2016Going SEPARATE WAYSdivided under the terms of the Property (Relationships) Act of 1976, which basically means everything is divvied up equally. This not only includes property like houses and cars but also debt. If you want to opt out of this and specify how you want to divide things, you need to have a prenup. Here’s why you might think about having one: • If one partner goes into the relationship in debt – for example, with a large student loan – the other one will be responsible for half of it if they split up • If one spouse has significant assets, like a home they have received in settlement from They’re commonplace among the rich and famous, but is there any point in the rest of us having a prenuptial…2 min

New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|12 September 2016MY BOOKSJim Mora hosts The Panel on weekdays on Radio New Zealand National. My favourite book ever is…Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart, who wrote perhaps the most-neglected fantasy series of recent times. It is a witty, mischievous masterpiece that follows a crafty, ancient drunk called Master Li and his brawny young companion, Number Ten Ox in their quest for a venerable ginseng root to save the stricken children of a medieval village. My book of the moment is…I’ve just finished Karl du Fresne’s A Road Tour of American Song Titles from Mendocino to Memphis. I know that doesn’t make me unique, especially among the males of this planet, but I do think I belong to a generation that is more captivated by electronic thingamabobs than most. It’s because we were alive before this huge technological revolution. Pre-internet, pre-laptop, pre-Tamagotchi. How did we live?Because we know what paltry devices existed before the golden years in which we now live, we have an amplified respect for what is available today. We can now wander into magical retail stores and buy equipment we could only dream of in our younger years. It’s truly like we have travelled to the future. Admittedly in a time machine that only goes 60 minutes an hour, but what a glorious world it has transported us to.But something is rotten…2 min

New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|12 September 2016The way WE WERENovels by international authors tend to outsell New Zealand fiction in this country and I suspect the reason that many people are reluctant to “read local” is they think the books are going to be hard work – all pretty prose and no real plot. To be fair, I’ve struggled through a few like that, but the new novel from Fiona Kidman isn’t one of them. All Day at the Movies is a cracker of a story that sweeps through our landscapes and recent history. It’s very much a New Zealand novel and it’s brilliant. It opens in the post-war era. Irene Sandle was widowed towards the end of the fighting and in 1952, she takes her daughter Jessie to Motueka, where she becomes a worker in the tobacco fields.…2 min

New Zealand Woman’s Weekly|12 September 2016She’s COME undone‘Surely, if I rang her, she would do the decent thing and free me from my frock?’ There I was, alone in my hotel room in Blenheim after a fabulous night out at the Bragato Wine Awards, celebrating the people who nurture and tend the grapes rather than those who make the wines. It was a dress-up affair because the awards are a big deal. Not black tie, but co*cktail and I’d bought a new dress for the occasion. As I’ve lost a bit of weight over the years, I didn’t have a knee-length glamorous dress suitable for the event, so it was a wonderful opportunity to go shopping. This not only includes property like houses and cars but also debt. If you want to opt out of this and specify how you want to divide things, you need to have a prenup. Here’s why you might think about having one:• If one partner goes into the relationship in debt – for example, with a large student loan – the other one will be responsible for half of it if they split up• If one spouse has significant assets, like a home they have received in settlement fromThey’re commonplace among the rich and famous, but is there any point in the rest of us having a prenuptial agreement? Many people don’t want…2 min

Underrated, I’d say. A taste of the tropics! I met my first dracaena when I was writing an article about a contemporary house on Waiheke Island sometime in the early ’90s. As I recall, the house was very cool, but it was the dracaena that stayed in my mind. It was in a shiny black pot and stood not up against a wall as was usual those days, but alongside a sofa right in the middle of the room.…3 min

Because we know what paltry devices existed before the golden years in which we now live, we have an amplified respect for what is available today.
