Weight Watchers Plan Continues

Weight Watchers is not introducing a new plan at the start of 2024.

The current plan (that was started in November of 2022) will remain in effect.

The program is expected to change to a new plan in November, 2024.

Weight Watchers Company Changes in 2024

While the program that members use to track points has not changed in 2024, the company continues to go through dramatic changes, including:

  • Oprah announced she is leaving Weight Watchers.
  • WW ends its food product line.
  • Weight Watchers app goes through major changes.
  • WW Clinic (Sequence) continues to offer GLP-1 medications.
  • Weight Watchers closes many in-person meetings and focuses on online options.

Current Weight Watchers Plan – Introduced November, 2022

The current Weight Watchers plan is the one that was introduced in November of 2022 and continues to remain the way to count points.

In an unprecedented move, Weight Watchers launched a new program for members on November 14, 2022 which was much earlier than expected.

WW App Changes for October, 2023

The WW will NOT be changing this Fall, but the app has received an upgrade.

Click here for a tutorial on what’s new with the WW app and where to find the information you need, and click here for how to earn and find your blue dot.

The new app has more ways to view your progress and trends, a separate helpful section with eating at home and eating out, and more.

Members Can Opt Into New WW Plan Now

I attended a Weight Watchers virtual meeting on November 13th. Here is the information that was shared.

How to Opt into the New WW Plan

  • Current WW members have the option to opt into the new plan in their WW app on November 14, 2022 at 9:00 AM EST.
  • If you don’t want to opt into the new plan yet, you can continue with Personal Points for 4 weeks. However, on December 12th, all members will be switched to the new plan.
  • If you don’t see the option in your app to enroll in the new plan, update your app in the app store. If that doesn’t work, use the WW chat feature or call the WW 1-800 number for assistance. Every member who wants to do so, will be able to enroll in the new plan.
  • Anyone who joins Weight Watchers as a new member will be enrolled in the new plan.

What is the new Weight Watchers Plan?

  • The new Weight Watchers Plan for 2022 and 2023 is a more simple and streamlined plan that makes weight loss easier.
  • The new plan has the same list of zero point foods for all members, with the exception of diabetics. Click here for a complete list of all 200+ zero point foods.
  • This plan promotes community since everyone has the same zero point foods and recipes will have the same amount of points.
  • The name of the new plan is “Weight Watchers Plan”, simple and streamlined.
  • 80% of members will see their daily point allowance increase with the new plan. (The more zero point foods you have currently that are no longer zero points, the more you will see your points increase.)
  • The new plan has approximately 200 zero point foods. (Click here for a free printable list.)

Is WW Offering a New Plan in 2022?

Yes! Weight Watchers is offering members a new plan in November of 2022 simply called the Weight Watchers Plan.

This is unexpected and has not been done before in WW recent history. Typically WW creates a new plan every 2 years, with the middle year having minor program adjustments.

Now, on November 14, 2022 WW is ending the Personal Points plan and offering a newly created plan.

This is huge news. As someone who has been using the WW system for almost 30 years, I have not seen Weight Watchers offer a new plan so quickly.

This tells us that the current Personal Points plan is not working for many members for weight loss. While we don’t know exactly what to expect with the new system, overall I’m excited for the change. Good for WW for listening to your members and meeting their needs.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my 100+ pound weight loss, it’s that while it’s good to try new things, when it’s not working I need to be willing to go back to the basics. It appears that’s what WW is doing with this new, more streamlined plan.

In today’s modern world, change happens fast and all of us need to be ready to pivot and adapt.

When Was the New WW Plan Be Released?

The new WW plan was released on November 14, 2022. New members will be enrolled in the new plan. Current members will have the option to start the new plan or to choose to stay with the current Personal Points plan for 4 more weeks. Then all members will be enrolled in the new plan on December 12, 2022.

What are the Zero Point Foods for the new WW Plan?

All members (except for those on the diabetic plan) will have the same zero point foods list, which will include:

  • non-starchy vegetables
  • fruit
  • lean poultry
  • fish
  • tofu
  • non-fat, plain Greek yogurt
  • non-fat cottage cheese
  • eggs
  • beans
  • lentils
  • peas
  • corn
  • popcorn (plain, air-popped)

Click here for a complete list of all 200 zero point foods.

For diabetic members, the zero point foods will be the same as above except fruit, peas, corn, and popcorn have points. Click here for a complete list of the diabetic zero point foods.

What Will the New Weight Watchers Plan Be Like?

Here are the details about the new plan, take from a WW virtual meeting on November 13, 2022:

  • The new plan will be more simple and streamlined.
  • Everyone will be on the same plan, except for diabetics.
  • Everyone will have the same zero point foods, with the exception of diabetic members who will still have a unique plan for them.
  • Recipes will have a set number of points for all members.
  • Zero point foods (for non-diabetics) will include non-starchy vegetables, fruits, lean poultry and fish, tofu, non-fat, plain Greek yogurt, non-fat cottage cheese, eggs, beans, lentils, peas, corn, and popcorn (plain, air-popped).
  • The list will be about 200 zero point foods.
  • Daily points ranges will vary according to sex, age, height and current weight.
  • Foods such as potatoes, oatmeal, and brown rice will NOT be zero point foods on the new plan. Members can still eat these foods (remember, no food is off limits in WW) but they will have points.
  • Members will continue to receive a daily points allotment and a weekly points allowance.
  • Members will NOT earn points for eating vegetables or drinking water.
  • Members will still be able to earn additional points for physical activity, called Fit Points.
  • This plan is said to be similar to the previous Blue WW plan and Freestyle, although it is it not the same.
  • One of the differences with the new plan is that healthy fats, which still having points, are lower in points than on previous plans. Avocado and almonds are now lower in points, for example.
  • The algorithm for calculating a food’s point value will stay the same.

What is the Name of the New WW Plan?

The name of the new plan is simply “Weight Watchers Plan” or “WW Plan”. Simple.

There is a new name called “Core” plan but that is NOT the food plan. Core is the new name for the online-only version of the digital program.

The company will continue to use both WW and Weight Watchers names going into the future.

What’s Changing and What’s the Same with the new WW Plan?

Here are more details about the new WW program.

  • Members still receive additional points (fit points) for physical activity.
  • The same algorithm is used to calculate the points of specific foods as well as a member’s individual points allowance for the day and week.
  • Members will no longer take a quiz when they join.
  • The new plan has about 200 zero point foods for all members.
  • Diabetics will count points for fruit, corn, and popcorn, but beans will continue to be a zero point food.
  • Members can choose the diabetic plan in their personal settings on the app. This status can be changed at any time during membership.
  • All recipes and meals that members have saved in the app will automatically convert to the new points system.
  • Oatmeal, potatoes, brown rice, and quinoa will not be zero point foods, but they will be low in points.
  • The blue dots system will remain the same.
  • The bar code scanner will remain the same except that it will reflect points for the new plan.
  • The Wellness Wins program will stay closed with no current plans for it to reopen.
  • People who are Lifetime or Maintenance will continue as they have before, except that their base daily points might adjust for the new plan, the same way they would for a regular member. People on maintenance will continue to have the option to adjust their daily points in the settings.
  • Roll over points of up to 4 per day will continue.
  • The app will be simplified, due to member requests who said the app was too complex.
  • The app will continue to have a water tracker, but tracking water does not give points.
  • Information about the new WW plan is available to both members and non-members on the WW website.

What if My WW App Did Not Update for the New Plan?

If you are a Weight Watchers member and your app does not update and give you the option to choose the new plan, take these steps:

  1. Go to your app store and update the WW app to the latest update.
  2. Contact WW 24/7 chat via the app and request assistance.
  3. Call WW at 1-(800)-651-6000 to request assistance.

When Will WW Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand Get the New Weight Watchers Plan?

I have been told by other WW members that the program will roll out in Canada, EU, Australia, and New Zealand at the end of November or beginning of December, 2022. However, I have not confirmed this. Please let me know if you have additional information and I will write an update here.

New WW Plan: Real or Rumor?

It is true that Weight Watchers is offering a new plan? Yes, it’s official that WW has started a new plan November 14th of 2022. I attended a virtual WW workshop on November 13 and the new plan was announced by W W coaches.

For several months now, There have been hints that WW was going to start a new plan sooner than is typical. A select number of people who were new members to WW were given the option to enroll in a test program. WW has also discounted their cookbooks to be 50% off, something they typically do only when a new plan is about to be announced.

Weight Watchers coaches and employees knew this new plan was coming for a few weeks in advance.

Will the WW Personal Points Program End?

Yes, the current Personal Points plan will end in December 12, 2022.

Current WW members will have the option of starting the new plan or staying with Personal Points for four weeks. Then on December 12, all members will be switched to the new plan.

New members will automatically be enrolled in the new plan, and all members will be using the new plan by the end of 2022.

Why is Weight Watchers Ending Personal Points?

WW, a top-rated diet plan, has not officially stated why the new Personalized Points plan is ending. I can tell you that as someone who writes about Weight Watchers on this website, I have received a flood of emails from people who are not losing weight with the current plan.

Many have left WW and gone to tracking calories with My Fitness Pal, using a knock-off WW app like Healthi, or simply following an older WW plan on their own.

As someone who has lost 100+ pounds with WW and is a WW Lifetime member, I am a WW fan girl. I love the WW system and counting points works really well for me.

But to be honest even I have had complaints with the Personal Points plan, especially counting extra points for vegetables.

New Weight Watchers Plan for 2024 {Plan Started November 2022} The Holy Mess (6)

Many WW members have shared their frustration with the Personal Points plan with me, and a desire to go back to the previous Green, Blue, and Purple plans, but then again we as Weight Watchers members have a history of always thinking the previous plan was the better one.

There is no way to follow previous plans while using the current WW system, but if you want to try to follow it on your own, click here for Blue plan information, Green plan information, and Purple plan information along with free printables.

What’s next for the new WW plan? Be sure to join my email list and I’ll keep you informed of new changes as soon as they are announced.

WW Personal Points Plan – Information From WW Survey

Instagram Pandemic Points also shares this information taken from a WW survey:

Introducing WW’s most cutting edge, comprehensive and personalized weight loss program ever.

Cutting edge because it takes the entire nutrition label into account. Calories, protein, fiber, saturated fat, unsaturated (healthy) fats and added sugars are all included in this new points formula. No other system seamlessly reduces all this complexity into one simple number.

Comprehensive because it isn’t just a food system. It’s an entire ecosystem that takes the whole you into account – incorporating your activity levels and water and vegetable intake, allowing you to grow your points budget and earn points for all the healthy things you do. It’s one complete system that takes in all into account.

Personalized because, for the first time ever, with WW’s guidance you determine your own individual plan, based on the foods you like and eat most often. These foods have zero points, and your plan is unique to you. With thousands of possible combinations, virtually no two plans are alike!”

Weight Watchers Program Review

How does Weight Watchers work for weight loss? WW is a reduced calorie, lower fat program that guides members to a healthy weight. The plan gives each member a daily points allowance that represents the food options for the day. In addition, every member has zero point foods that can be eaten to satisfaction plus a flexible weekly points budget.

Which WW plan is best for vegetarians? While all WW plans can be used for vegetarians and vegans, we recommend the Purple plan for vegetarians.
